Dr. Claire Lathers
Skilled in the fields of pharmacology and food safety, Dr. Claire Lathers is well-regarded in her field for her contributions. She is currently a clinical pharmacologist and consultant. Dr. Lathers started working after completing a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences from the Medical College in Pennsylvania.
In her career, Dr. Lathers has been the senior advisor of science, food and drug administration, involved with the post-September 11th Biomedical Countermeasures board with the FDA, NIH and NASA under former President George W. Bush. She has been a director of the Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation with the Food and Drug Administration. In addition, she has been a food safety officer for the FDA during President Bill Clinton.
Dr. Lathers earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Union University in 1969. She continued at SUNY Medical School for pre-doctoral training with the National Institutes of Health. In 1973, she received a PhD from the University of Buffalo. Dr. Lathers has achieved a great deal of goals, becoming credentialed as a senior biomedical research scientist with the FDA. She is also the first woman in the United States to serve as president and dean of a college of pharmacy. She is also the first woman to have been elected President-elect of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology.
Dr. Lathers has published creative works and maintains membership with a variety of organizations, leading to several awards and recognitions. She has been involved with the Federal Executive Institute for a Democratic Society, the FDA Commissioner’s Senior Science Council, the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the Aerospace Medical Association.
